The day was growing older, and the light had turned from pink to gold. He was the fastest, strongest, and most obedient horse on Yggdrasil. Sleipnir could be guided with the faintest touch of the frost-stricken rein, the tiniest tap of the heel of Odin’s boot. He knew his rider and his rider’s commands like a leopard knows its spots. The saddle and bridle that bound him were to the immortal horse as a coat is to a service dog. The combined scent of aging leather, oil, and smoke were the only other thing that could focus the erratic steed. As the mount and servant of Odin himself, it was Sleipnir’s sacred duty. Nevertheless, he took his orders with a grave seriousness reserved for this task alone. The air smelled pleasantly of frost and pine, but the part of Sleipnir that cared was absent at the moment, fluttering vaguely at the back of his mind. The one-eyed traveler remounted in an instant and pushed him into a canter, guiding the steps of his eight black hooves with reins of ancient leather. He watched, golden eyes glinting in the rosy light of dawn, as his master ended a rapid, hushed conversation with a nearby raven. His black mane was a banner in the frigid wind, dancing through the eddies of the mountain air. The air was sharp and clear in the mountains of Asgard, so a thin mist of fog streamed from his nostrils. He shifted his weight absently, waiting for instructions. a large grey-and-black horse with eight legs and golden eyes. I haven't done any roleplay as or involving gods, but I do a lot of other role plays and have been for about 4 years. I myself am a very different person to the people I know depending on how close I am to them and how much about me they already know, giving me a personal connection to tha character I've built for Sleipnir. I feel like not giving a personality to the son of Loki/mount of Odin is a missed opportunity, since that role needs filling by a personality both feisty enough to be related to Loki and patient/quiet/obedient/dutiful enough to serve Odin. Sleipnir never gets a lot of characterization in the Poetic Edda, so playing Sleipnir gives me a lot of room to mess around. ![]() ┊ ↳ ❛ Roleplsy 2-3 times a week, on average ❜ Especially when the bright side is the part that’s on fire. Even when the bright side is the part that’s on fire. For all that Sleipnir is aggressive and prideful, he is intensely positive on the whole and will try to look on the bright side of the situation. Once an entity is known to him, however, he is known to be very talkative, hotheaded, and a little vain. ![]() In general, Sleipnir is shy and quiet around those he does not know. If presented with a direct challenge to skill or honor, Sleipnir is likely to act rashly and accept the challenge regardless of circumstance. Primarily wary, as horses tend to be around strange things. The system he's worked out concerning time off works fairly well, but his training still gives him a split personality concerning his debatably magical saddle. He is very polite to his mother, and makes a valiant attempt to treat him with respect, but he does harbor a streak of resentment for being gifted into slavery. Primarily friendly or indifferent, close to his mother Loki and his siblings Fenrir, Jormungandr, Hel, and all the rest. ![]() Sleipnir then became Odin’s steed, but his opinions on this arrangement and his mother's treatment of him are not canonically known. He then did what all sensible mothers do, and gifted his child to Odin as an apology for the whole ordeal. Loki, however, overestimated 'her' running ability and gave birth to Sleipnir months later. ![]() The Master Builder failed in his task and was killed by Thor, also as per atrangement. The horse snapped his reins and broke free, chasing Loki. Loki, having also sworn not to do anything to hinder or harm the Master Builder himself, shapeshifted into a mare and drove Svadilfari mad with desire. Loki, who made the arrangement, was forced on pain of death to save Freyja and the celestial bodies from their imminent predicament. Svadilfari proved impossibly strong, and within three days of the end of winter, the wall was complete but for the entryway stones. If he could build a wall imenetrable by any army by the end of winter with only the aid if Svadilfari, his horse, he was promised Freyja, the sun, and the moon. ❜Īfter Asgard was damaged in the aftermath of a war, the Gods hired a giant known only as the Master Builder to rebuild and fortify it.
